Probation & Parole Violations

Probation and Parole Violations

Harrisburg and Millerburg Criminal Defense Attorney

There are two types of problems that typically cause probation or parole violations.

  1. Technical parole violations in which a person doesn't do what they were required to do, such as:
  2. Failing to report to your probation or parole officer
  3. Failing to report for a mandatory drug test, failing a drug test, or testing positive for alcohol use
  4. Failing to pay fines or court costs as ordered
  5. Failing to comply with the terms of your probation or parole regarding counseling or community service
  6. Failing to maintain a job and/or family obligations (child support or child visitation)
  7. Committing a new crime

Whether you've gotten into trouble for a technical violation, failure to report in, or are facing new criminal charges, the defense lawyers at Shaffer & Engle Law Offices, LLC, may be able to help. Depending upon the violation and your past actions, prompt and diplomatic action on the part of an experienced defense attorney may save you jail time.

Contact our office promptly so we can begin working on your case. Defense attorney Jeffrey Engle is a former assistant public defender and deputy district attorney in Pennsylvania criminal courts. He understands both sides of the criminal case. Just as valuable is his 15-year familiarity with every parole officer in Dauphin County.

What Will Happen Next?

A probation or parole violation does not automatically mean a jail sentence. It depends upon your past relationship with your parole or probation officer, how long you’ve been on parole or probation, and how many past violations you have had. Sometimes the officer is more willing to work with a person when a lawyer calls to negotiate on their behalf.

Ask for a Hearing!

Gagnon I is a preliminary revocation hearing and Gagnon II is a final revocation hearing. You have a right to a hearing before your probation or parole is revoked. Many people don't know that and we frequently hear from people who were told in jail that they needed to sign a form but were never told they were giving up their rights.

Don't give up your right to that revocation hearing!

You can have a lawyer at that hearing but you need to call immediately. Our defense attorneys can talk with the parole officer before that hearing and it may make a big difference. Contact our Harrisburg office to talk with us about your situation.
