Man found not guilty of carrying out sex attack 30 years ago

A jury has taken just 30 minutes to clear a New Hedges man of allegations that he sexually assaulted a young girl more than 30 years ago.

Gareth Jones, aged 62, who gace his address as a motel, told Swansea crown court the complainant had threatened to "get" him and had made up the claims.

Jones was accused by the woman of assaulting her between 1978 and 1980 when she was about four years old.

She told the jury that at the time she had not understood what was happening but realised later when she grew up.

Jones, giving evidence on his own behalf, said nothing of a sexual nature had ever happened.

He said she was carrying out her threat to "get me, fix me."

Jones, a former railway worker, had always denied indecency with a child and gross indecency and he was cleared unanimously.

Allegations of sexual assault are difficult to prove if there is no physical evidence linking the suspect to the crime.  Further, if the suspect hasn't confessed or made a partial confession it is even more difficult.  But, when the crime itself, isn't reported immediately, regardless of age of the victim, it becomes a near impossibility for the Commonwealth to meet its burden of proof at trial.  Don't wait until you've been interviewed by the police to call a lawyer.  Get experienced legal representation before it's too late.  Contact Shaffer & Engle Law Offices, LLC toll free at 1-866-765-0706 or at www.shafferengle.com  You may reach Elisabeth Pasqualini directly at Elisabeth@shafferengle.com
