LA Times Breaks News of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Secret Love Child

By Pandora Young on May 17, 2011 1:39 AM

Another huge Schwarzenegger scoop for the Los Angeles Times: Arnold fathered a secret love child with a household employee over a decade ago. Arnold finally 'fessed up to his wife about the kid in January, and Maria Shriver moved out of the couple's Brentwood home.

In response to questions from the LAT, Schwarzenegger released a statement Monday night acknowledging his paternity: "There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused."

Review by Attorney Nichole A. Collins, Family Law Division Leader, Harrisburg, PA

This case brings up a common situation in realm of custody law.  That is, whether unwed parents share different rights than those that are wed, separated and going through a divorce.  There is no difference in the rights that the respective natural parents share.  Both parents have the right or standing to request legal and physical custody.  In the cases of a father who is not sure he is the father or if it is contested by the mother, there will be the need to conduct a paternity test to ascertain who the father really is.
