ALICE IN CHAINS' MIKE STARR ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION AFTER CELEBRITY REHAB STINT
Mike Starr from Alice in Chains, has been arrested for drug possession,
a drug crime. This is more than the typical disappointing celebrity drug
arrest, though, because Starr was featured on the TV show Celebrity Rehab,
and appeared to have kicked his substance abuse problems.
TMZ reports that Mike Starr has been arrested in Salt Lake City for a
drug crime. The former bass player for Alice in Chains was featured in
the 2009 season of Celebrity Rehab, where he appeared to recover from
substance abuse. He is
currently being held in jail.
Mike Starr's arrest will come as a major disappointment for fans of
Celebrity Rehab, undermining the basic premise of the show (that celebrities
can be quickly cured of substance abuse problems). It is unclear at this
point what potential penalties the Alice in Chains bassist could be facing,
and whether jail time could be involved.
While famous musicians and movie stars might catch some breaks when they
are arrested in Hollywood, Mike Starr is unlikely to receive special treatment
in a Utah jail. The politically conservative state takes a dim view of
drug crimes.
Mike Starr is not the only rock star bass player to be arrested this month,
though. The Smashing Pumpkins former bassist, D'arcy Wretzky was also
arrested. She is charged with the crime of "Animals Running at Large."
Apparently, some horses escaped from her farm and caused havoc near her
Michigan home. She ignored her tickets and court dates, and ended up getting
a six-day jail sentence.
